By action of the 140th annual Encampment of the Department of Michigan, Sons of Union
Veterans of the Civil War a program has been established to provide scholarship funding
to high school graduates residing in the State of Michigan who are members of the Sons
of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) or one of its Allied Orders. Applicants must
be High School Seniors graduating in the current year or undergraduate college students
contingent upon their enrollment in an accredited college or university, vocational/institute,
trade school or technical school prior to December 31 of the year in which the scholarship
may be granted.
A designated amount of $2,000 will be set aside in the balance sheet of the Department of
Michigan to fund two $1,000 scholarships on an annual basis
Applications are to be made on the offical form of the Department of Michigan and must be
submitted for consideration to the Scholarship Committee after January 1 and before March
31 in the year in whch the application is made.
Winners will be notified by May 31 of the year of application. Upon receipt of proof of
acceptance into a qualifying institution of higher learning a check will be mailed by the
Department of Michigan to the financial aid office of that institution.
